Here’s a great hanging T-rack system that combines two different types of storage space. The ote side is a horizontal rack that allows you to load and unload wood and moulding from the side, instead of from the ends. The other side is a typical U-shaped rack for storing pipe and other items that might roll off. This is a great space saver for cluttered garages. Wood can be bought at any of our Hardwares in the Garden Route area.
Build a Customized System
Building a Customizable System can easily be done over a weekend. Visit any sporting goods store and you will likely see walls of vertical slats with various hooks and bins that can be rearranged easily. Why not build this easy-to-manage system in your own home. Incorporating many of the same features which make the retail systems so useful, this system is simple enough that it can grow and change as your needs evolve.
Simple Overhead Storage
Store bulky items overhead by creating a simple rack from 50mm PVC pipes and fittings. Bolt the straight pipe to the ceiling joints to support heavy loads, and screw the angled pieces from the ‘T’ connectors into the cross brace to provide stabilization to the whole rack. The PVC’s smooth surface makes for easy loading and unloading. PVC piping is available at any Hardwares in the Garden Route area.
Garage Ceiling Track Storage with Bins
Get those bigger plastic storage bins up off the garage floor and onto the ceiling with this easy Track Storage Idea. Screw 50mm by 50mm wood planks to the ceiling frame with 76mm by 12mm screws spaced every 610mm. Don’t forget to use the bins as a guide for spacing the wooden planks. The lips on the bins will just brush against the wooden planks when you’re sliding the bins into place. Center and screw – 25mm by 100mm to the wooden planks with 50mm screws. The garage ceiling is a perfect place to store light and medium weight items like holiday decorations and camping gear.
Brilliant Bike Storage
Hanging bicycles from the rafters is a great sorage saver. But even hanging bikes can take up a lot of room. Here’s a cool space-saving product that puts a new twist on the ordinary bike hook. This cool Cycle Glide is a system of hooks mounted on glides. The bikes slide closer once attached to the wall on the glides that mount perpendicular to the wall. And because the hooks slide back and forth on the lower set of glides, the bikes can be placed neatly together, taking up a lot less space.
Heavy Duty Shelf Brackets
Shelf brackets designed to support clothes hanger rods aren’t just for cupboards. The rod-holding hook on these brackets comes in handy in the workshop and garage. Easliy bend the hook to suit long tools or cords. Cupboard brackets are available at Hardwares or Gelmar in George.
Stack Your Bins the Easy Way
Plastic storage bins are a great garage storage system to separate and organize anything in your garage. But most of the time they usually get stacked against a wall somewhere, which makes getting to the bottom bins difficult, especially for your kids. A permanent DIY garage solution is only a weekend away with easy-to-build storage racks that are a neater and ingenious way to provide easy access to all your bins. Use different colors for each category to make finding what you need a breeze, plus you can use the sides of the wooden frame for wall-mounted accessory items such as fishing rod holders or utility hooks for lightweight items. Bins can be found at any Hardwares or Mambo’s in George.
Fishing Rod Organizer
Who doesn’t get sick and tired of your fishing rods getting tangled, so we came up with this easy fishing rod organizer. All thats needed is a length of 76mm diameter PVC pipe and a foam swimming pool pipe for this cool idea. Drill 25mm holes spaced every 100mm into the PVC pipe. Using a utility knife, cut slits in the foam pipe, spacing them 100mm apart. Lining up the pool pipe on the wall so that two of the slits sit over studs. Gently pull the slits apart, slide in a washer and screw the pipe to the wall with 50mm screws. Screw the PVC pipe to the wall beneath it at a good height and insert your fishing rods. Look, no more tangles, no more frustration! The PVC pipe is available at Builders Warehouse, Build It and other plumbing stores in and around the Garden Route area.
Cardboard concrete-forming tubes are inexpensive and provide a great place to store bats, long-handled tools and rolls of just about anything you desire. Rest the tubes on 50mm by 76mm wooden planks to keep them high and out of the way. Secure each tube to a garage stud with a plumbing strap. You can find these tubes at any hardware, most of the time they give them away for free.
Great Flexible Garage Storage Wall
This storage system solves two frustrations: first, how to design storage space for a narrow space between the garage side wall and your car; and second, how to create a solid mounting surface to hold shelves and hooks that are capable of supporting heavy items.
A solution is to create a framework of horizontal wood planks and inexpensive shelving. It will hold almost any arrangement of shelving and hooks, at any point on the wall, and is easy to rearrange.
